It's a New LIfe Once Again!

Max is a supervisor at Ashgrove once again. This time it is in Durkee, Oregon. We are sooooo grateful to be able to once again have a future.We bought a little house in Fruitland. I am busily dragging out all our old stuff that has been in barrels in the shed. I am revitalizing them and looking forward to decorating the space. Max is only concerned about the bed so he bought one via he the computer with he and I back and forth looking at the picture. All in all he picked what I would have picked. Did I tell you that I have not seen the inside of the house? We will make it ours anyway. When I ask "Ok, what did this look like?" he says... YEA!!!Oh well I have it all changed in my mind anyway.Maybe that is why we get along so well.
Anyway, It is kind of fun to get to fix this little place up.

ANNIVERSARY NUMBER FOUR!!!

I came in the house after working a normal thursday in Blackfoot, and went about my busines of getting a bag together to take off with Max for our anniversary. He came in and had put the flowers on the counter and went about getting ready to leave to. We had no clue where we were going. It didn't really matter, as long as it was together. I had won a half off to the Black Swan for writing in on one of their contests... but it wasn't valid for our anniversary. We called in and they still had rooms not taken and let us come in. It was a fun relaxing time and we got ready at noon and went up to Idaho Falls and did a session in The temple and went to dinner where our wedding dinner was held. Can I just say that I have the most kind husband. He always thinks the best of everyone( even if they do him wrong)They can use him, abuse him, critique him and he still just goes on his way. That's why I love him...and some day when I GROW up I hope it rubs off on me. My theory has always been" bite me once and you will never get a second chance to chew."I leave people that are mean in the dust!I am so grateful that I get to have this "BIG FELLAR" for Eternity... It was fun to relax in The Temple together and laugh with each other.Thank You Heavenly Father!! He is mine!

Max Dean Shaffer appointed to Inkom City Council

Max was appointed tonight to the Inkom City Council. A position was vacated by Charmaine Murdock when she and her husband were called to serve a mission in California. Max ran for City Council in November and recieved the next highest amount of votes. He was appointed by Mayor Joel Jolley to fill The position. He will serve until December 31, 2011.

Happy New Year!!! It seems like December flew right by us... We have done a little ice fishing...well Max mostly has.I did go and had fun pulling Caden(my great nephew) around in the sleigh behind the 4 wheeler as he yelled GO AUNT JAN.....GOOOOOO!!!! we do like the fresh air... zero degree fresh air. It makes the boys laugh when I shreek because you can hear the ice crack!!! HOLY BEGEEEBEES!!!
Max has been at his new job for almost a year and We are coming up on our 4rth Anniversary!! It is really nice to have someone we can have fun with! Work is busy enough that our fun is just relaxing at home sometimes and that is just ok with us. It is a pretty cute HOME to relax in and we sure enjoy it. This new year poses some fun new experiences and we are glad to be settled and ready to roll!!!We bought ourselves a generator for the 5th Wheel and are looking forward to a few more outings ...this time anywhere we want to go. Now it is have curling iron will travel!!!
Bryce is getting ready to put his mission papers together. He will be 19 in June!He is working at the "J" still and is keeping the fire going...literally. He is teaching a lesson in Priesthood at the Singles branch and hanging out with friends here and there. Life is GOOD!

Well here we are Halloween 2009...We have had a busy summer and Fall. The first sticking snowstorm hit today and It is the first day of the Football playoffs for Marsh Valley. They play Salmon tonight. Max just called me and the said the inmates were scooping snow off the football feild. I had just said Boy this is going to be dangerous for the kids to play in.

Tuesday night, Max went and got JJ and let him ride with him in the Semi and they took a little 4 wheeler ride. I think he was tired of carving pumpkins as he had that adventure with His dad and then his mom and Tiny. Grandpa carved one here with him ,roasted the SEEDS, and then watched the Halloween Alien movie.I think he liked taking the pictures more than anything.

While preparing for the wedding I walked to the mail and there was this FUN little note to lighten the Days load!Nothing like having a good fun moment!! Dayton came to the door when I was washing windows and said "Jan, ya know that food ya have that I like?? I said, Is is the same food that is Max's favorite?? He smiled and said YES! Isn't it nice that just an otter pop can make someones day! Dayton goes to his Grandma Karen's for a pre-school and he made it with Hailey's help and hers. Pretty cool huh?

It is here...The Day Amanda and Chris tie the knot! The dinner went very well. Its been a very busy summer getting things fixed up.( We didn't really have much to fix up but Max worked hard, poured our driveway to his shop and we worked to get our garden and some flower beds brought up a notch.Bryce even got in to some good old fashioned table decor!!!He and Jeff Helmandollar helped us get chairs and table in. We had to run to the rehearsal and left Bryce to bake rolls and chicken cordon bleu while we went to Pick Max's tux up and on tothe rehearsal out at Wilhelm's. He did quite well and now we know he has oven cooking skills( grin) we will have to USE his talents . LOL Thanks Bryce for helping Dad and I accomplish our projects. Tammy and June, My good friends, showed up to rescue Bryce . I think we had about 40 -50 for dinner and it was a nice relaxed evening. ....More later with pics to follow!

Bryce was presented today at a Stake Priesthood meeting to become an Elder. We are very proud of him.He has made a lot of good choices in his life and one of the greatest choices is the group of friends he has. I hope I can remember who Max told me was also presented today but all of them are Bryces friends and have been in this home with us.Aaron Brown, Riley Brown,Dallin Gunter...I will let Max edit this and add the names of the rest. Our lives are influenced by those we "HANG" with. We are glad he has had such a great batch of friends. The girls as well as boys. They have all been such backups for each other. Good friends keep you out of the mud bogs of life!

It is two weeks until the big day for Chris and Amanda. My heart is full! It is soooo nice to have Happy EVENTS in our lives. This is a culmination of lots of preparation on lots of peoples part.These two kids have planned and orchestrated quite a bit of this wedding.Chris came to me and asked for some addresses. I handed him the address book and between he and Amanda they chose their guests. Lots of couples just say hey folks it yours to deal with. Chris has always been pretty self motivated and as a parent it is such a blessing to stand back and say whoa these two are a productive couple who are prepared to go out into the world......and they did! I haven't had to do much for either one of them.Max said one time how nice it was when we went to Henry's Lake and they were so much help.New home, New jobs, new puppy and now the world is theirs to be had. Great Memories to come!!! I am grateful for Amanda!! It is very nice to know that someone loves your son like I do.I think They both have made good choices in life!We have been very blessed and look forward to this wedding but even more their combined lives.

The quilt has been taken to Sages Quilt Company to be machine quilted and I have started the process of making Amanda and Chris' a wedding video. Just going to load pics on and put it on a picture frame. It has been fun to sort through Chris's old pics and see Amanda as a child. This is one I am blackmailing Chris over. Bryce is having his Wisdom teeth out today. We are trying to get some of these things done while we still have insurance in preparation for his mission.
Nathan Lish Passed away and there is a memorial On Monday Night at his Grandparents house . We have a 24rth of July Celebration we need to go help with and we are not going to get there...I don't dare let Bryce stay home alone. He was so funny coming out of the anesthetic I think he thinks he is just going to be PEACHY... Most of the time that doesn't happen. he has has some pretty good swelling to deal with Max is full force working at this Batch plant. It has been long hot hard hours and he is tired. He needs to quiet time and some REST!! and it doesn't look to calm down.I haven't figured out how PEOPLE pay bills without working!!!! Me??The salon is going well.The garden is going on...still working on the quilt, the wedding video and hauling rocks out of the empty lot to make me a flower bed behind the shed for the wedding dinner. Next.. I need to get the . Max is fitted for his tux.. My Mom's dress is here and it fits.. It is such a pretty color. She was very thrilled with it and my dress got here and fits.. I just got the Quilt top done and now it is on to t he picture video and then we are in business.. Amanda's shower went well. She got a lot of nice things.. The group seemed like a nice bunch of people and Chris's Mother in law is a very nice person. I like her...He will be in good hands. Going to go get Bryce some ice cream....

Skyline Ward Campout

It is Sunday and The Skyline Ward Campout is complete. Johnson Excavation recieved their permits to run the Ashphalt plant and Things are in full force. It has been a very busy week trying to get things ready. We pulled the 5th wheel over to Indian Hot Springs on Thursday night and set things up in what they call the grove. The dinner went very well and there was lots of really good food. My neighbors, The Smedleys , came on in friday afternoon and here comes David , Cynthia, and Hailey( Our future General Board Relief Society President ) to help. We are soooo lucky to have great neighbors.Hailey helped me make the strawberry lemonade while Mom taped paper to all the tables and David cooked hot dogs. Max was making beans and I had the pulled pork cooking all day. That night I got a flat tire on my car and went home with Max so I could drive the camry to Amandas' wedding shower in Chubbuck . Max had to go to work at 4am. He called me at 9 and said Jan the Feezer is bleeding. I got as much in the other freezers as I could and got ready for the shower and headed to Lowes to buy a new one. I bought one in 15 minutes and headed to the wedding shower. When I got home, Cynthia and David brought our 7 day cooler home and I was able to transfer the meat in to that.Max didn't get off work till 9 so We waited until sunday morning to go get my car and The 5th wheel. Meanwhile Dave Battson had put the doughnut on my wheel and then Gary Long took it to Les Swcab and got it fixed and it was put back on when we got there..Magical Tire Fairies!!!!.. I mean Magical GOOD OL boys!! The new freezer arrived today and I got the food put back in. Bryce and Jeff Helmandollar helped us get the food out of the camp trailer so we could get back to normal. This week is the Stake 24rth of July dinner....and next is Chris and Amandas WEDDING DINNER.I did gerry rig the Quilt top together good enough totake it to the shower in the midst of all of this. I am grateful for the flat tire so I got home in time to take care of the freezer....

Well we have Shane home now and it really feels great to have him here. It was nice to have so much support out at the airport. We had a nice turnout here at the house and the food was great. We have been through two graduations and Shane coming home with a quick trip to Tony and Brandi's sandwiched in the middle. I feel very blessed to have the family I have. We have Chris's wedding in August and then Kati and Steve will get married next year. After that I guess it will just be looking forward to more grandkids.

... I am SOOO grateful to have my husband HOME!!!I just had a call from his instructor at Sage Driving school and he was very complimentary about Max. There is not much he can't do and if he can't he will figure out HOW to! Every day he tells me how how nice it is to be treated good by his employer. It is really nice to have him home at night. Right now they are assembling the pieces and parts that they transported from LOS LUNOS!They are hoping to be in production very soon so its a busy time in this YUCKY weather.

Shane has been home and has been way busy visiting all his friends. It has been nice to have him around and he looks great! It will be nice to have him home for GOOD. He has enjoyed his Harley!! I wish it could have been warmer here. I think Shane was able to have some relaxing time. I was going to take him to Salt Lake in the morning so he could fly to Hawaii but just found out Ed is.
We had a simple Easter dinner and I enjoyed My folks being here.My Mom said Thanks for thinking of us. Max's boys went to Bea and Ed's. Evidently there were no At Home holiday activities when they were young, so the kids went to the Grandparents. I guess that is what happens when you have a combined family. I should be able to resign myself to that.They keep their traditions and It has been tough for me when I always had the holiday at my own house and or my folks. I just can not leave my folks alone for holidays. They have spent the last 3 Christmas's alone.My grandiose idea of having "OUR" family here was just that!!! Grandiose! Our next Phase is Chris adapting his holidays with Amandas family . The traditions here are not his anymore either.I am really not looking forward to him being gone. He has been such a great blessing to me.He is such a self reliant person. Enough of this!! As you can see I really don't care for holidays!!
We had a robbery today at the Ireland Bank. I had been there about and hour before. They said he had a walkie talkie in his pocket and figured others were involved with him.They showed him on the cameras and Chris and I listened to the scanner while I finished baby Kaden's quilt. I was really deep into thought working on the sewing machine and Chris sneeks back there and pops a bag and yell stick em up... LOL Choking the little poop was an option.. He delights in that!!.. I told him I hope you don't do that to Amanda.. He said"I DO" but she beats me up..lol

Max got home friday night and once again I am glad to have him home. We enjoyed some quiet time watching General conference and relaxing.We had a little time together last night and I made him watch Twilight in the theater room. Max was headed out to go to Priesthood Session of conference and he could not get the truck door open because his sweet wife had locked the doors when I came home from picking him up at Johnsons . Todd Solomon came over to unlock it which was great because Max says wel just get the extra key in your purse.. LOL It was in the truck in my purse. Thanks Todd for saving us again.
Chris and Amanda called from Fruitland. They had been on a house hunting excursion and put in an offer on a new home there. Chris and Amanda were at the Durkee Cement plant too showing Amanda where he was going to work.

This has been the month of Birthdays.. Here we go!!!
Max is off to Los Lunos New Mexico. Max and I took a Semi truck ride to The Flyin J to gas up. I had hoped it would make me feel more comfortable that he was takin to the road and headin south but....It didn't. I will say that there is not much my husband can't do. After all..." He is the best boat backer known to the civilized world".. Quote unquote and I know you kids have heard this more than once.We drove out of the cul-da-sac and I was not sure how in the world he could navigate the truck out and he did. He brought us right back in and backed up pretty dang good. He stated that most normal men would not even attempt it. I agreed but reminded him that he NEVER HAS BEEN NORMAL!
Life has a way of of making a complete flip flop and it has for us. If you would have told me we would be living like this one year ago, I would never have believed it. Are we grateful??? More than anyone could possibly imagine. My husband is being treated like he should have been treated for 24 years and he has joy once again. The only thing I regret is that when he was 21 that he could have had a full blown college education because he has a great mind and has had to work hard for everything he has ever recieved. I think he would have been great in the medical feild.
This opens a new chapter for us and turns a page. Max aced the skills test at his school(There have only been 2 that did that)and his grade 97.66 in his school was in the top 5 percentile. He is sporting about 5 new certificates that he got on his exit interview.He now has a full blown CDL with all the credentials to drive any loads.

The classroom part of trucking school is finished. I have to drive with the instructors and do the range test then I will have a class A CDL and have all the endorsements that go along with it. Johnson excavation has hired me and I am really looking forward to going to work. I am going to Los Lunas, New Mexico on the 16th of March and learn how to run the plant. I will be there for a couple of weeks then in a semi for a couple weeks going back and forth hauling it home. I am really excited for the new challenges and the new opportunities that are ahead. I really want to get to Tony's when the baby is born and hopefully get a Steel head trip in while I am there. I don't know if I will get everything I want but I'll try. The MV boys lost to Shelley last night in a play-in game so I guess they won't be going to state. Michael Wheat lost his championship match at state but still finished with an incredible high school Career. Cody Benjamin was the only MV kid to take first at state. Bryce has just started his last trimester at highschool. He will be starting track on Monday and is working at the Flying-J a couple days a week after school and track practice. He is the Stake representative for our ward with the Youth. He is the Senior class President and seems to be handling life well. He is learning to be a responsible young man. Chris has been out hunting Coyotes this winter and had a lot of success doing that. He is getting ready to graduate from college in the spring and is in the process of planning their wedding for this summer. He is moving to Fruitland and going to work in Durkee in May. They have been checking out the house market over there and found a few houses they like. It is fun to watch these young men grow up but in a year from now they will both be gone and I will really miss them.

What a nice Valentines day. We had lunch with Katie and spent all day with each other. It was a very fun day. I think I am going to like having a normal schedule with normal days off. Truck driving school is going well and I am really looking forward to starting my new job.

Well, It is almost our 3rd anniversary going on our 50th, and we have another NEW start...ready set go....Max has a new job and I must say I have not seen him this HAPPY. We are excited and can now see how the whole plan has been laying itself out. Max will have a full endorsement CDL and it will fall right in to what he will be doing. They are sending US to Florida for him to go to the school In March.
Max and I were very much wanting to be able to go to church together instead of only 4 months in a year and we now have weekends together and can maybe manage some camping trips in on the weekends. We are trying to build up a food storage along with what we have. Max had a permapak food storage and I checked it out on the internet and it was still good. I have been making our bread for awhile now and been able to use the powdered milk, potatoe flakes from the storage and am incorporating a little at a time into our meals. We were so blessed to have it and all the meat that we got this last fall.I want to get a little more structured meal plan going on. That is just full blown fun to me. We are eating a little healthier here. We have been able to completely eliminate the hotpockets and poptarts out.
Bryce also has a job now. He is working at flying J. He is also put a couple of applications out as far as college.He will be graduating from High school in May. Chris and Amanda are preparing to look at housing near Durkee where he will be working as soon as he graduates from ISU this May.
Tony and Brandi are pretty close to having their new little guy here . Shane is anxious to get on with life and be home with his new little family.
JJ has become a pretty good little fisherman. Max said he caught his 3rd one all on his own and pretty much shadowed Grandpa all day.
The salon is going very well and I am close to being able to close it in to a more structured schedule. I have been going 2 days a week to Blackfoot because Tracy had rotator cuff surgery. That came in handy right now. A friend of mine has been diagnosed with Ovarian cancer and I will have a 4 hour a week job cleaning at her home. That I plan to buy food storage with.
Shortly here I am going to begin writing a book. I have joked about it for years but between that and wanting to get back into my tole painting, I am wanting to start making some dolls and painting their faces....It never hurts to dream....Dreams are what life is all about.

I was in the Salon and Max headed off to work. He peaked in and said" This is my last one"! I don't know where I have been but I thought friday was his last day at the Cement plant. Seems almost SURREAL to me and I am sure it's a NIGHTMARE to him. I keep thinking we are going to wake up from a bad dream.

The Countdown

Well It's seeming like life is in a series of countdowns for us right now. We have a new grandchild coming in March, Bryces High School graduation day in May. Bryce just landed a job also by the way.Chris's College graduation day is also in May and he is off to Durkee Oregon for a 2 year Internship and back on August 29 for Amanda and his wedding. Shane is done with the Marines in Late May and home with his new family. This week for Max is the culmination of almost 24 years at the cement plant on March 25. On January 31st he will no longer be employed At Ashgrove Cement. Four generations of family have worked there and now....IT IS
done. This has been a week of mixed emotions for us. I think Max prayed for this because he has wanted to be able to go to church every Sunday. Well...Now he can and I must admit, when we got married, I was looking forward to having someone to go to church with and talk about the gospel. Boom, 7 months later he got put back on shift work and that was gone. Not only did we not go to church together but we have had very few if any weekends off together. Hopefully, That can change now. Pray for us that we both will head in the right direction... we need all the help we can get.

It's pretty strange when these little nephews of mine and Max's turn into Big boys and Daddy's.
I told Brocks little boy the other day his Grandma Sue was my sister. He had the cutest look on his face and told me "don't blow my mind." It wasn't very long ago when Brock was his age and he and I along with his brothers and cousin attempted the Movie " HOME Alone".
